Brenda McCaffrey

I am passionate about the flow of electronic charge in materials. I combine dance/movement with an understanding of how charge is created through triboelectric action, and use this to create garments that come alive. I have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on semiconductor physics (1999) and completed the Advanced Management program from the University of Chicago Booth School (2009). I've also completed 3+ years of graduate course work and research in Media Arts (2018) and am proficient in Python, Rhino with parametric modeling using Grasshopper, plus interactive media creation and motion tracking using Cycling '74 Max/MSP. I have lectured in the theories of Dynamical Systems and Biomimetics. I've also trained in various somatic and movement practices, including the Alexander Technique, kinematics, Laban and contact improvisation. I play classical piano, and study/perform hula.
